Dementia Specific Orientation Training 11/20/13
Alzheimer's Association Tri-Cities Branch
The 4 hour orientation training is a brief introduction course for professional caregivers who are taking care of those who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. This course helps professional caregivers to gain an understanding of cognitive impairment. This training covers Dementia: What is it?, communication, behavior and Environment and safety. These trainings will be held every other month at the Goodwill of Central Virginia located in Petersburg, Va. This training meets the requirements set by the Department of Social Services for persons working in Special Care Units.

“Building Blocks for Nonprofit Board Members - An Introduction” is a 3.5 hour workshop which will orient prospective or new board members to the nonprofit sector and the 10 basic responsibilities of board governance. This training is intended for those members of the community who have never served on a board and are considering it, just recently was placed on a board and would like some additional resources/information on board governance, or an experienced board member who would like a refresher on best practices. Workshop participants will gain access to BoardLink, a portal on the HandsOn Greater Richmond website which connects volunteers to board service opportunities. Currently, this is only open to those persons who have completed the Building Blocks training.
