| Communications Coordinator - AmeriCorps VISTA | | | | Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia, Inc. | AmeriCorps*Volunteer In Service to America (VISTA): AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you’ll create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. In addition to extensive professional development training, VISTA members receive a small living stipend, health benefits, and can elect to receive an educational award of $5,250 to pay off existing student loans or finance future education. The Communications Coordinator positon involves Marketing / Communications / PR / Video/ Graphic Design / Web / Social Media. VIDEO: Candidate should be able to assist in video production behind the camera and potentially in front of the camera. Edit video footage and create graphics using Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable software to create short videos for YouTube. SOCIAL MEDIA: Candidate should have strong communication skills across social media platforms. Ability to brainstorm ideas for and compress or expand messages to fit the appropriate platform. Strong organizational skills to generate statistical reports on social media successes. Ability to write content and design newsletters. Familiarity with HootSuite and Constant Contact a plus. GRAPHIC DESIGN AND BRAND MANAGEMENT: Candidate should have strong skills editing not only for grammar but also for content and messaging. Strong writing skills and the ability to write concisely. Ability to manage projects from start to finish and collaborate with other departments. Ability to screen content for basic brand requirements. Ability to create original documents. Candidate should be able to learn and then master in-house copier and bindery equipment to produce constant on demand output and maintain inventory of many materials. Coordinate with outside printers and mail-houses for quotes and printing and mailing services when needed. Candidate should be able to create original design when instructed. Ability to follow established brand directives to produce products in quick turn environments. Use of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher. Learning includes: Knowledge of non-profit in-house marketing, special events, and culture of the non-profit sector. Portfolio builder: You will touch almost every aspect of marketing and communications. Real life application of your talent. You will produce tangible finished projects. You will be in control of many projects. This position’s main focus is to assist in all initiatives of the communication department including but limited to: writing, editing, designing and printing of HOME materials, blogs, newsletters, etc.; project managing a strong social media presence across multiple platforms; producing and editing organizational videos for community stakeholders. We are not expecting you to have expertise in every function listed below. Instead, we are looking for the best candidate who can best support as many of these functions as possible. | Qualifications applicants should possess: Candidate should have strong organizational skills and self motivation to stay on task to meet deadlines. Ability to multi-task and have flexibility to adjust to ever changing priorities and timeline changes. Ability to work as part of a team and take creative direction yet vocal enough to advocate for your creative perspective. A can-do and positive attitude to know anything done in a day’s work at HOME supports the mission. A plus if you have some experience with: Adobe Premiere Pro or similar video editing software.
